Trip to Canada July 2006

My son, daughter, her husband Fred and his 2 daughters spent the past week in the spectacular Jacques-Cartier National Park in Quebec Canada. Here is a link to the park http://www.sepaq.com/pq/jac/en/. We (son, daughter and I) took tons of photos but here are a few to start.
I spotted the moose in the river on the way back from the end of the road that runs along the river for about 15 miles. I was so happy to get some good moose shots.

  • This waterfall comes off of a lake that, I would think the only way to get to it would be by helicopter. I empties into the Jacque Cartier River about 15KM upstream.

  • Our first stop on the river after pairing off in our canoes. My son Geoff and I were together at first. We got 3 feet from shore and promply tipped the canoe over (the park guide, along the with bus driver, was probably thinking, "HA, fat American, you are going to be fish bait"!!) . I was toooooo heavy for the front seat so I had to sit like ballast in the bottom of the canoe. NOT comfortable to say the least. Did I forget to mention I am really kind of afraid of the water???? I went so my son would be able to go.
We were in the water for 10 minutes and had our first series of rapids, AGHHHHH!!!! I thought my daughter was trying to give me a heart attack. When we were not fighting rapids (they only went to class 2 rapids, nothing really big for the average joe), the scenery was beautiful. It is really the only way to see the river.

  • Shot this moose from the dirt road that runs along the east side of the river. I think they wait for all of the canoes and Kayaks to leave before they come out to feed on the grasses that grow in the river. These were taken at about 6:30pm.
